Telefónica Hispanoamérica enhanced its operational indicators, focusing on implementing the group's GPS strategic plan during the third quarter of 2024.
In the fixed segment, the company reached 5.1 million fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) accesses during Q3 2024, marking a 17% year-on-year growth. Argentina, Colombia and Peru showed significant progress.
By the end of the quarter, the company had 22.4 million homes and businesses with the possibility of contracting or migrating to FTTH and cable, a 15.1% year-on-year growth.
This figure was driven by FiberCos companies where Telefónica holds a stake, such as in Chile, Colombia, and Peru.
In the mobile segment, the company achieved 98.4 million total mobile accesses, a 1.6% increase compared to the third quarter of last year.
Prepaid accesses grew by 2.5%, while postpaid (contract) accesses decreased by 3% due to the competitive environment in Colombia and Chile, as well as the economic situation in Argentina. Notably, in Mexico, postpaid accesses increased by 9% year-on-year.
In the third quarter of 2024, revenues reached 2.1 billion euros, a 6.2% year-on-year reduction due to competitive aggression in some countries, significant drops in mobile equipment sales, and currency depreciation in countries like Mexico and Chile.
In line with the strategy of continuing to build value for shareholders and operate sustainably, Telefónica Hispanoamérica signed a non-binding agreement with Millicom at the end of July to explore merging their operations in Colombia. This potential transaction is subject to the signing of definitive agreements between the companies and obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals.
In September, América Móvil and Telefónica signed a non-binding agreement to jointly explore their potential participation in the sale process of WOM S.A.'s assets in Chile and its affiliates as part of their Chapter 11 reorganization process pending before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Both processes are ongoing.
