Arielle Roth was nominated by President Donald Trump to lead the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, NTIA oversees the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program, which provides $42.45 billion to expand high-speed internet access across the U.S. and its territories.
Roth’s nomination was made public through statements and posts from several organizations, including Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr, CTIA – The Wireless Association, and Comcast, among others.
“I want to extend my congratulations to Arielle Roth on being nominated by President Trump to lead NTIA. NTIA will play an exceptionally important role over the next few years on issues that are vital to America’s economy and global leadership — from spectrum to broadband and innovative technologies,” Carr wrote.
Roth currently serves as Policy Director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation. She also has served in various roles at the FCC, and as a Legal Fellow with the Hudson Institute’s Center for the Economics of the Internet, where she concentrated on federal telecommunications law and policy.
“NTCA congratulates Arielle Roth on her nomination to serve as the administrator at NTIA,” said Shirley Bloomfield, CEO of NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association. “We had the privilege of interacting with Arielle on significant policy issues during her time on Commissioner O’Rielly’s staff at the FCC and in her various roles on Capitol Hill. NTCA looks forward to her confirmation and to continuing to work together on the shared objective of ensuring that every American gets and stays connected.”
Originally from Canada, Roth earned degrees from the University of Toronto and the McGill University Faculty of Law. Her articles have been published in the Federal Communications Law Journal, the Washington Legal Foundation’s Working Paper Series, and the American Bar Association’s Administrative and Regulatory Law News, as well as in consumer and business media.
Former U.S. Senator Roy Blunt posted, “Congratulations to Arielle Roth on her nomination to lead the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Arielle did a great job as the telecom leader on my Senate team, and went on to learn even more working for Senator Cruz and the commerce committee. She is incredibly capable and will be a great leader for this important agency.”
