Similar to what has already happened in the United States and various countries in Europe and Asia, Entel has decided to focus on developing infrastructure with 4G and 5G technologies and gradually phase out its 2G technology starting in mid-2024.
This measure will allow for more efficient and effective spectrum utilization, improve the browsing experience for customers, advance inclusive digitalization, and enhance energy efficiency.
Furthermore, upgrading technological infrastructure is one of the enablers of Chile's Digital Strategy 2035 and the national goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
"It will be a gradual and planned process that allows us to minimize any connectivity issues and progress in updating our network nationwide. Additionally, we have designed a communication and support plan specifically for users who may be affected by this measure, making the transition as smooth as possible for everyone," said Francisca Florenzano, Sustainability and Communications Manager at Entel.
"In our nearly 60 years of history, we have worked to provide Chileans with the most robust mobile network in the country. Our network has evolved alongside different mobile technologies to ensure our customers have top-notch connectivity and browsing experiences. It is during this evolution that we will phase out 2G technology, and we have proactively planned territorial deployment to inform customers and facilitate this transformation with minimal impact," commented Patricia Muñoz, Director of Territory and Stakeholder Groups at Entel.
