Movistar has begun 5G connectivity tests at two stands in the Las Mercedes neighborhood of Caracas, having acquired spectrum for the deployment of this technology last January, following an auction process.

At the main booth, located in Plaza Alfredo Sadel, users will have the opportunity to test the browsing speed and response times of available mobile devices, as well as experience gaming and virtual reality.

The company has set up a second stand located in the Automercado Shopping Center, at the beginning of the main avenue in Las Mercedes, with devices available for 5G navigation tests.

Rodolfo Campa, Marketing Director at Movistar, explained:

With this deployment, we will offer a new network with fifth-generation technology, capable of providing the best data transmission experience. Our customers will experience faster upload and download speeds, lower latency, and a significant improvement in indoor penetration.

The pilot program, available until the end of May, also includes educational talks and use cases for the manufacturing sector.

Movistar plans to roll out its advanced 5G technology in the 2,600 MHz band, leveraging dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS). This innovative approach promises seamless coexistence between 4G and 5G networks, optimizing spectrum utilization while ensuring high-quality user experiences (UX).

Through this ambitious 5G development project, Movistar aims to deploy 805 nodes nationwide over the next few years. The initiative also includes a comprehensive implementation plan featuring more than 6,000 network enhancements slated for this year alone. These efforts are set to significantly bolster Venezuela’s telecommunications infrastructure with cutting-edge technology, leading to enhanced connectivity.
