Telstra International has unveiled its strategy to establish a regional network hub in Guam, marking a significant move in its expansion plans. The company will achieve this by setting up a dedicated point-of-presence (PoP) in Piti, located within the carrier-neutral GNC iX, a data center owned and operated by TeleGuam (GTA).

Why Guam?

“Guam is a vital link in the global digital chain, and this regional hub marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Roary Stasko, CEO of Telstra International. 

Guam is emerging as a pivotal digital hub in the Asia Pacific region due to its strategic location amidst major submarine cable routes, including the Asia-America Gateway (AAG), Australia-Japan cable (AJC), and Taiwan-Philippines-US (TPU) cable.

Telstra International's establishment of its new PoP in Guam underscores its commitment to meeting the rising demand for connectivity in the region, efficiently serving telcos, enterprises, government agencies, and other organizations requiring a range of connectivity services throughout the Pacific, while also facilitating local access solutions and linking cable systems landing in Guam.

Having said that, this move will facilitate connections to new cable systems like Echo and central Pacific Connect, enhancing network reliability and redundancy across Asia, Australia, and the US.

"Telstra’s establishment of a dedicated point-of-presence in our GNC iX Data Center is a significant endorsement of Guam as a critical connectivity hub between Asia, Australia, and the United States," said Roland Certeza, President and CEO of GTA.

It is worth noting that earlier this year, Telstra International took the first step to extending its network capabilities into Latin America.
